Will walkie talkies work in an airport?

QuestionAs

Going to germany with some friends. We are taking two different flights that arrive at the same time, at the same airport. Thinking about bringing walkie talkies so we can find each other in the airport. Good idea, or will not work?

Answer
If you're talking about the little FRS radios that everyone is carrying around in the US... DO NOT DO IT!!! The frequencies are different between the US & Europe. The frequencies used for FRS radios, cordless phones, etc. in the US fall within the Emergency Services band in Europe. In other words, by talking on those radios, you could be interfering with police or fire department radios.

This warning is given loud & clear to all arriving US military & contractor personnel. The Polizi has broken into homes simply to seize US-made baby monitors & phones before.

how do you reduce home wireless networking errors?

DD_Sabre

On my home wireless network , i`m getting 100`s of errors. Does anyone know why or how to reduce them. Thanks in advance.
The router.adsl modem is a belkin 54g and all i can add is that on the stats page of the modem is tell me the amount of data, and errors associated with the wireless part. There are no other errors to do with the hard wired networked pc`s. just the wireless connection to a laptop.
yes the router is in range....84% signal and constant. no to mac filtering. yes to encryption (wpask) all links use the same code or wouldnt be able to get a link.
the wireless link does work and seems pretty stable but my question was as to why i was getting so many errors only on the wireless link. you might say "why worry if it`s working pretty good" but thats not the point when really there shouldn`t be any errors at all.
sorry ppl, i cant tell you what the errors are, my router doesn`t tell me exactly what they are just the amount. If i knew what they were or what was causing them then i wouldnt be asking. Thanks for trying anyway..

Answer
Record the number of errors. Refresh the list of wireless networks your laptop can see -- are there many or just your router? Then move your laptop/PC closer to your wireless router. Turn off all cell phones, baby monitors, cordless phones, microwave ovens ... did the errors decrease? Login to your wireless router and ensure you are configured for the USA or Europe. The USA uses channels 1-11 while Europe uses channels 1-13 for 802.11b standard with 22 MHz wide signals at 25 MHz spacing. This an option in your wireless router and laptop to select the regional configuration. You did not specify the operating system but if it is Windows then upgrade to SP2 -- there are know reset issues with prior software.
